Educational Service

Nur Ul Islam will offer a multitude of various Educational services and programs. Some will be seasonal while others will be offered all year round. The programs will be categorized under several subcategories. Daily Hadith After the Fajr and Isha Salaah a hadith is being recited in Arabic followed by an English translation. This serves as a daily advice to those attending while getting them familiar with the various sayings of our beloved Prophet (SA) Qurán Recitation Classes Nur Ul Islam offers an adult Qurán recitation class for both brothers and sisters. The age group for this course is usually from 18 to 90 years. For those below the age of 18 years, the weekend Madrassah is offers a similar class. Exceptions can be made for those who are between the ages of 16 to 18 years who cannot attend the Madrassah. This is a ten session course consisting of one hour of Quránic recitation lessons followed by half an hour of Islamic Studies. The course is offered at various times of the year. The course has a basic text which is offered free of charge with options for affording students to donate towards offsetting the cost of the book. The day and time of meeting are based on the convenience of the teacher and students and is agreed upon on the first day of class. Graduating students are given a certificate of accomplishment from Nur Ul Islam. Qurán Tajweed Classes Nur Ul Islam offers a Qurán tajweed course for adult brothers and sisters. This course teaches one hour of Tajweed rules along with half an hour of Islamic Studies. It runs for about ten weeks and it covers all the main areas of the rules of tajweed. The age group for this course is usually from 18 to 90 years. For those below the age of 18 years, the weekend Madrassah is offers a similar class. Exceptions can be made for those who are between the ages of 16 to 18 years who cannot attend the Madrassah. The course is offered at various times of the year. Students must purchase the recommended text as part of the course. The day and time of meeting are based on the convenience of the teacher and students and is agreed upon on the first day of class. Graduating students are given a certificate of accomplishment from Nur Ul Islam. New Muslim Classes The new Muslim classes are special classes held for new Muslims who desire to learn their religion more. It is offered even if there is only one person in the class. The class teaches the new Muslim the rules of how to pray, learning to recite the Qurán and also the various ritual practices required by Islam. The class is interactive and also teaches the student about the basic tenets of the religion. The class is also a forum for the new Muslims to feel comfortable and to get their concerns and queries addressed. It is also a social forum that facilities them becoming part of the Muslim Community. Salaah Classes Those who desire to learn how to pray and along with its basic tenets will be assigned a personal Salaah Coach who will assist them one on one to learn to pray. Supplementary textbooks will be provided to such individuals by Nur Ul Islam. Weekend Madrassah The weekend Madrassah is a very important project of Nur Ul Islam. Students from 5 years of age to 18 years of age can attend and learn their faith and its various practices. The Madrassh is held on Sundays from 10.00 am to 1.30 pm. It teaches the students to recite the Qurán, pray Salaah and learn the basics of the religion. It is done in an atmosphere of brotherhood and students are encouraged to make friends. Lunch is provided as part of the program. Textbooks should preferably be bought by parents but will be given free of charge to those in need. The Madrassh is intended to build the knowledge, manners and character of our young people. Full Time Islamic School (NUIA) Nur Ul Islam Academy provides a full time school from kindergarten to grade twelve (12). It is designed to teach both the academic requirements of the State of Florida along with Islamic knowledge and etiquette. Students study in a beautiful, safe environment and are connected to caring teachers and staff. Since this is a private school, fees are required but assistance is available to needy students. For more details one can visit their website at www.nuia.org Sunday Lecture After Fajr on Sunday there is a lecture that lasts 10 minutes on a relevant Islamic topic. This is intended to provide useful knowledge to those who come for the weekend. Sometimes coffee and snacks are also provided and it is here that real interactions and discussions take place. Educational Seminars\Conference Nur Ul Islam holds special seminars from time to time based on the needs of the community and also on requests from members. These seminars can be as little as four hours long to as long as two full days. Members are encouraged to suggest topics for seminars that they consider necessary for the community. To see what seminar are being held one can visit the website of Nur Ul Islam and see the plans for the year that is posted with dates. Life Coach This is a new service that is being launched. It seeks to provide to the young people, a Life Coach who can assist them to navigate their career and other concerns. It is intended to provide guidance and direction, support and good advice to the youth in a confidential manner. It is done on a one to one basis. Seniors Nur Ul Islam works with the Lifespan Holistic Health Network (LHHN) group to provide programs and opportunities for seniors. This LHHN holds a monthly seminar where attendees get free medical checkup, listen to lifestyle related topics both from an academic and Islamic point of view. Free breakfast and lunch are provided as part of the seminar. The venue is rotated and held at different masjids.

Funeral Service

Members Who Pass Away Nur Ul Islam is set up to provide a full service to the families of deceased members as they attempt to fulfill the last rites to them. Funeral Home Arrangements Members who request will be assisted with arrangements at either the Fred Hunters Funeral Home or the Muslim Cemetery. Use Of Masjid Facilities The Masjid facilities may be used by members to make the Janazah Salaah. This is usually done in the compound just in front of the Masjid. If there is a serious rainfall, then the hall will be used as a backup. Nur Ul Islam has a portable microphone and will facilitate whatever is needed such as parking, to ensure the Janazah salaah is done in a proper and smooth manner. Members may also request the use of the masjid for the holding of any memorial program such as reading Quran etc. Death Announcement Family members of the deceased may request Nur Ul Islam to make robo calls to its members to announce the passing of a brother or sister along with details about Janazah, viewing and burial. There is no charge for this service and the family does not have to be a financial member of Nur Ul Islam to request this service. Bathing Of The Deceased It is encouraged that close members of the deceased should provide a proper bath to them. Nur Ul Islam will be available upon request to advise or assist the family in this important ritual. Janazah Prayer It is recommended that the close relatives of the deceased make the Janazah prayer for them. Nur Ul Islam can also facilitate the leading of the prayer itself upon request by the family. Burial Arrangements Nur Ul Islam can assist in the logistics of the burial arrangements if requested by the family. If the member’s family is unable to cover the full cost of the burial, Nur Ul Islam will determine if the case warrants assistance and will seek to assist as much as possible within its constraints. Grief Counseling Grief counseling to the members of deceased family will be provided to help them cope with their grief and loss. Nur Ul Islam will also seek to teach the family about what they can do for the deceased and what is the Islamic etiquette and mannerism when such tragedy befalls one.

Family Matrimonial

Good communities are made up of good families and good families are created when righteous and suitable spouses find each other. Nur Ul Islam will facilitate this process for all members. Finding Suitors This service will assist those who are desirous of finding a spouse. Nur Ul Islam initially will collect some basic information about them and along with what kind of spouse they are looking for. This information will be used to network with other groups in a confidential manner. Once a potential match is found, Nur Ul Islam will facilitate the two parties to communicate and explore if they have indeed found their future spouse. Tips and advices will also be given upon request as to what kind of spouse one should preferably seek. Pre-Marital Advices Class Pre-marital advices will be conveyed to those members who request this service. This service will provide two potential couples with current, important information and tools as to what marriage is all about and how to make their marriage successful. The session usually lasts between two to three hours. Nikah Nur Ul Islam will conduct nikah services for members provided they have gone through the pre-marital advices session. Prior to acceptance of doing a nikah service, a meeting will be held with both parties to discuss all aspects of the event. The main concern for Nur Ul Islam is to ensure the Islamic rules are followed and established. Requests for nikah services must be done at least two months prior to the event. Tips For Newly Weds Nur Ul Islam will provide to newly married members a small booklet, upon request, called “Tips For Newly Weds”. This is a special publication designed to help those who just got married to navigate the early stages of their marriage. In order to minimize cost, this book may be sent in an eBook format. Marriage Counseling Nur Ul Islam will facilitate counseling via its network for couples who need help over a rough patch in their marriage or require a more serious intervention. There may be a fee for this service. The sessions are professional and confidential.

Hall Rental

The hall is available for rent and can be used to hold events such as weddings, seminars, dinners etc. Members get a special discount. The rental includes chairs and tables along with a stage. Those renting the hall can however avail themselves of the kitchen to keep food warm and to assist in the serving of meals. Masjid Usage Members can use the masjid for any special programs such as a class or to hold a mini seminar. All such use must be authorized. Also Nur Ul Islam will allow individuals to stay overnight based on specific conditions eg for Layla tul Qadr or a special night seminar or a visit from some travelling Muslims who has no place to stay for the night.

Commemorations

Nur Ul Islam will seek to commemorate a multiple of occasions that are important in the Islamic Calendar. Eid ul Fitr And Adhaa The two Eids will be commemorated on the Nur Ul Islam premises. Provision is made for the praying of the Salaah. Safe parking is provided to those attending. Some snacks and food are provided. Youman Nabi Nur Ul Islam recognizes that commemorating the birth of the Prophet (SA) is a matter that has many different viewpoints amongst scholars that range from it being bida’ to that of it being recommended. There is also difference of opinion as to the exact date of the Prophet’s birth. Nur Ul Islam has adopted the position that it will use the opportunity to educate the community about the life of the Prophet (SA). This is the recommendation of such prominent scholars as Dr. Yusuf Al Qaradawi. While adopting this position, Nur Ul Islam also recognizes and respects the rights of others to have an alternate point of view and not to make this a source of contention and disunity. During this time, Nur Ul Islam will organize an educational lecture on some aspect of the life of the Prophet (SA) and invite members and their families. The program will culminate with food, socialization and discussion. Mi’raaj During this time effort will be made to educate the community by delivering Jumuáh khutbahs on the topic. From time to time, a specific lecture may be organized as part of the family night and this event discussed with the community as a way of educating them. Days Of Zhul Hijjah Members will be informed about the blessings of the first ten days of Zhul Hijjah and will be encouraged to do as much good deeds as possible. The Jumuáh khutbahs will also be use to provide education about the importance of these days. Day of Ashuraa Members will be reminded to fast on the 10th of Ashura and one other day before or after. Occasionally dinner may be organized for those who fasted on the day itself. The Jumuáh khutbah will be used as a way of reminding members of the importance of this day.

Social Welfare

Monthly Hamper Distribution A fixed number of hampers are delivered monthly to those in need. The hampers consist mainly of grocery items such as rice, flour, peas, beans etc. Occasionally meat is also distributed with the hampers. The donation of these hampers come from some special sisters who belong to a variety of masjid communities. They have come together to do this project and Nur Ul Islam assists them to find those who are in need and facilitate the distribution of the items to them. Medical Assistance Nur Ul Islam will work with the Muslim Clinics and doctors to facilitate needy members in resolving their medical issues and concerns. This is done in a confidential manner. General Counseling Effort will be made to assist suffering members with mental health and relationship counseling services. The service will first seek to help members directly. In the event that the case is severe and requires a professional, Nur Ul Islam will seek to direct and connect the affected member with appropriate professionals. This is done by networking with other professionals both within and outside the community. In the event that the affected member is unable to offset expenses for such counseling, Nur Ul Islam will strive to assist financially as best as possible. It should be noted that all requests for counseling will be handled in a strict and confidential manner. Visiting The Sick It is the duty of a Muslim to visit a sick fellow Muslim. Once information is received of a sick member, arrangements will be made to visit that member and to make dua’ made for them. Such visits should be kept short as per the Sunnah. Also requests for dua’ by family members will be honored. Women Shelter It is recognized that one of the most difficult problems is the one faced by sisters who may lose their husbands (by divorce or death) and are left homeless with children. Nur Ul Islam will work with the local groups who are involved in providing women with short term shelter relief. It will provide the connection and follow up the cases to ensure a smooth resolution. Legal Assistance For members requiring legal assistance, Nur Ul Islam can be a last resort to assist. The service will seek to connect the needy member with members of Nur Ul Islam who are lawyers or with institutions that can advise and assist them with their issues.

Worship

Daily Salaah All five daily Salaah are offered at Nur Ul Islam. The Imam and his assigned designees identify suitable personnel to either call the Adhaan or to lead the Salaah. No one should give the Adhaan or lead the Salaah unless the Imam or his assigned designees give them permission. In the event the Imam or his assigned designees are not present for some reason, then those who are present can assign someone from amongst themselves. Note that the Madrassah has been given permission for the Sunday Zuhr Salaah to assign who they see fit to give Adhaan and lead the Salaah. The Nur Ul Islam Academy has also been permitted to assign suitable personnel for the Zuhr Salaah from Monday to Thursday during school days sessions. Zakaah Zakaah is a pillar of Islam. In recognition of this Nur Ul Islam facilitates the collection, recording and distribution of Zakaah. To this end a great deal of effort has been placed on ensuring this service is done properly. A proper vetting system is in place to weed out fraudulent cases while at the same time making sure those who do deserve the Zakaah gets it. The priority for distribution will be to members of our community first. In cases where someone is in dire hardship but is not a member of Nur Ul Islam, efforts will be made to provide some temporary relief. Strict confidentiality is maintained regarding those who receive Zakaah. Jumuáh Weekly Jumuáh service is provided. The khutbahs are rotated between the Imam and others. The topics are varied and seek to cover both current events and items of fiqh and seerah as well. The Khutbah starts at 1.30 pm and finishes at 2.00 pm. Announcements are made immediately after the Salaah. Food is provided for sale with proceeds going to the masjid’s expenses. The Jumuáh is prayed in the Nur Ul Islam Hall. The brothers pray in the front and the sisters pray at the back. Sisters are provided a choice to either be completely screened off or not. Ramadan Nur Ul Islam provides a full service to the community for Ramadan. During this time the venue is decorated, cleaned and made ready for the month. Taraweeh Salaah Twenty (20) rakaah Taraweeh Salaah is prayed during the month and at least two professional reciters of the Qurán are selected to carry out this noble task. The whole Qurán is recited during the month. Effort is also made to let those attending know what portions are being recited each night. Iftar and Dinner Free iftar and dinner is provided each night of Ramadan to the community. The costs of these meals are offset by generous donations from members of the community. A great deal of effort is expended to ensure the meals are Halaal, freshly cooked, delicious and in adequate quantity. Those desiring to sponsor a night’s meal or to donate should do so early as the slots fill out quickly. Layla Tul Qadr Islam encourages all Muslims to seek the night of Layla tul Qadr during the last ten nights of Ramadan. Nur Ul Islam will hold a special program on the 27th night where food and snacks will be prepared to facilitate members to stay overnight and do their íbadah. Suhoor (morning meal) will be provided to those staying the night. On the 27th night, the completion of the recitation of the Qurán will take place. Also there will be a short program letting the community know about the work of Nur Ul Islam. All effort will be made to provide an atmosphere for íbadah and dua’ I’tikaaf During the last 10 days of Ramadan, it is recommended to make I’tikaah (seclusion in the masjid). This was a Sunnah of the Prophet (SA) and the community is held liable if at least one person does not perform this ritual. For those who decide to make I’tikaaf, Nur Ul Islam will provide them full support. This involves meals, privacy, accommodation etc. Hajj Members who desire to make Hajj will be assisted and connected to a third party agency. Nur Ul Islam will assist them throughout the process. This will include education and training along with logistics. Qurbani Nur Ul Islam will recommend reliable and honest individuals and institutions who are involved in providing Qurbani services. The members are expected to make their own arrangements with these vendors and individuals.

Literature Distribution Qurán and other useful literature and CDs will be distributed for free based on availability. These can help members either get a better understanding of some aspect of the religion. There are some special packages for new Muslims or those desiring to make the hajj. Robo Calls Members are entitled to receive telephone calls updating them about various activities and upcoming events. Members who desire this service must submit their phone numbers and names. Of course the Facebook Page and Website are alternate sources for information about events as well. Website And Facebook Nur Ul Islam has an official website and Facebook page. All things related to Nur Ul Islam can be found on the website which is in constant state of upgrade and update. Members are encouraged to make suggestions as to how to make the site even better. The Facebook page will usually only contain information that is current and advertise events to be held in the near future. Jumuáh Announcements Events of both Nur Ul Islam and other groups will be done immediately following the Jumuáh Salaah. If there are too many announcements in a particular week, then some may be postponed for the following Jumuáh. All requests for announcements from other groups must be submitted by Thursday before Salatul Isha.

Fundraising

Breakfast / Brunch This program is a breakfast\brunch offering of several delicious dishes which include many Caribbean Favorites such as Doubles, Saltfish and Bake along with several other specialty meats, puris, rotis, vegetables and curries. The prices for the meals are inexpensive. The ambience of the spacious air conditioned hall with picnic tables provides a perfect place for your family to come, relax and enjoy a wonderful Sunday meal. It is also a time to socialize and get to know other members of the Community as well. This program is offered to the community on the last Sunday of the month. Sometimes it is usually postponed for various reasons so call ahead before you come. Annual Fundraising Dinner This is the main fundraising event of Nur Ul Islam. It is a joint event with the Nur Ul Islam Academy. The program includes a detailed report of all the work of Nur Ul Islam along with the coming projections for the future. Special guests relevant to the event’s theme are invited. It is the one program that should not be missed by members as it allows them to really get a clear picture of the future of the community. Annual Bazaar The Annual Bazaar is a joint fund raising event between the Nur Ul Islam masjid and the Nur Ul Islam Academy. It is intended to raise funds for both entities. A wide variety of foods, games and fun events are provided for the community. Bounce houses and other forms of entertainment are provided for the kids. It is an all-day event and a wonderful time for the community to meet fellow members is a cordial social atmosphere. BBQ Events From time to time a special BBQ event will be held to supplement funds when there is a shortfall. This event provides the community with sumptuous BBQ meals for a reasonable price. The community members can purchase and take away or eat on premises.
